Name Derivation and History
Rose Hill founded on 2 November 1788 was the first colonial settlement established by Governor Arthur Philip. In 1791, it was renamed to the town of Paramatta after the Burramatta people, the indigenous aborigines of the region. Rose Hill is now spelled Rosehill.
Attractions
The Rosehill Gardens Racecourse is one of the two major racecourses in Sydney. Rosehill Gradens Racecourse is approximately 20 minutes to the west of Sydney central business district. Three of the city's major roads - Parramatta Road, Victoria Road, and the M4 Motorway service the course. Horse races for thoroughbred gallopers are held at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse.
